Andy Price Leaves Warner Christian For Titusville

After 13 seasons with the Warner Christian Eagles in South Daytona, Andy Price is taking his coaching skills to his next stop down to Titusville, where the Terriers are looking for a fresh new start for a once proud team. The Terriers that won state championships in 1982 and 1983, last made the playoffs in 1995, according to the Florida Today. Price, who was introduced last Friday, after accepting the job the evening before told players “We're going to be successful, or I'm going to die trying. I don't know what it's like to not have success.” Price applied for the job after seeing the posting on the FHSAA website, going with his heart and believing that God wants him to be in Titusville. Price will start teaching at the school full time this coming Monday.

Former head coach Pete Fominaya laid the ground work for success at Lehigh Acres Lehigh and Nathan Sund will continue that, as he becomes the next head coach for the Lightning, the Fort Myers News-Press reports. Sund who is a former assistant at Lehigh, spent the past two seasons over at South Fort Myers where he was instrumental in leading teams there into the playoffs. Sund told the News-Press that he was excited because its a great opportunity for him. Sund was a candidate for the job back in 2009 when Fominaya got the nod the first time around.

While news is usually pretty big when a new head coach is hired at any school across the state, some assistant coaches are making a splash in the news this past week.

First, over at Tampa Leto, second year head coach Matt Kitchie has announced that Greg Meyer, former head coach at Jacksonville Wolfson will be joining the staff for the 2012 season. Meyer had resigned last week due to family health issues and had already moved the family back to Tampa when his resignation was announced. The Tampa Bay Times is reporting that Meyer will become be the second ex-Tampa Plant assistant on the Falcons staff.

Second, Chad Lashley is out at Fort Walton Beach after two months on the staff as the new offensive coordinator the Northwest Florida Daily News reports. Lashley who resigned after the 2011 season at Navarre, where he led the Raiders to unprecedented heights in 2010, coming short one game of the state championship game, resigned for family reasons. Again, this time around he resigns to take a job outside of education, which will sells systems and programs to football teams across the country, plus will allow him to spend more time with his family.

Last, but not least from this week, Tarpon Springs has tapped Clearwater Countryside wide receivers coach Brian Nay to be its next offensive coordinator, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Nay has been with Countryside since the 2010 season and was the offensive coordinator at St. Petersburg Gibbs in 2009. He replaces former Tarpon Springs head coach Atif Austin who served as offensive coordinator, who was replaced by Ron Hawn during the 2011 season.

Tomorrow, Governor Rick Scott will honor Class 8A State Champion, Tampa Plant, during a cabinet meeting that will be held at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, the Tampa Tribune reports. Plant, which won their fourth state title in six years in December against Miramar, is one of two Plant athletic teams that will be getting honored by the governor. The other team being honored is the Girls Cross Country team, which won a state title back in November.
Kyle Allen, a 2009 graduate of the St. Augustine Menendez's football team died Sunday in Clinton, SC, the home of Presbyterian College, where Allen was attending at. The St. Augustine Record and Florida Times-Union, which reported the death, was told by a spokesperson of the college that a fellow student had found Allen unconscious in a fraternity house early Sunday morning. Allen was a captain for two years for the Menendez Falcons football team and had even earned an honorable mention on the Class 3A All-State team in 2009. The death is now under investigation by the Laurnes County Coroner and the State Law Enforcement Division. You can read more about investigation here.
The Naples Daily News has reported that new Naples Gulf Coast Coach Pete Fominaya will be meet with current and prospective players this coming Saturday. 8th graders and parents of all students attending the meeting are invited as well. The meeting will start at 5:30 pm, in the school auditorium.
Immokalee, a team fully loaded with talent in the Class of 2013, has now seen two players verbally commit to various schools over the last month. This time Deadrin Senat, pull the trigger and put his pledged to the Seminoles of Florida State, the Naples Daily News reports. Senat made the commitment on Sunday, about a week after visiting the Tallahassee-based university for Junior Day, has become hot talk after participating in the Under Armour and U.S. Army combines for juniors. At both combine events, Senat walked away as the most valuable player. “I went up there for a game when they played Miami and it was just a beautiful experience. They played with class and I like that and I just got hooked,” Sneat told the Daily News.

Even with National Signing Day already a week behind us, there are still plenty of signings going on to lower Division I and even to Division II, III, NAIA and JUCO schools going on. Yesterday, Virgilio Hunter, a defensive standout from Navarre, decided to take his playing career over to Jacksonville University in Northeast Florida, the Northwest Florida Daily News reports. Hunter who lined up in both the defensive tackle and linebacker positions, the decision came pretty easy to him. “Jacksonville was my first visit and after I was supposed to visit Alabama State and a couple other schools, but after I went to Jacksonville, I saw all I needed to see,” Hunter told the Daily News. Hunter sent his letter of intent on National Signing Day, but didn't hold the ceremony until yesterday.

After being a starter for two years, Tampa Robinson cornerback Vic Rivera has found a home to continue his playing career. The Tampa Bay Times reports that Rivera has committed to Ridgewater College in Minnesota, a two-year program in the JUCO division. He is the second Knights player to commit this month, the Times also reported.
Tampa Jefferson linebacker Zach Condon, finally signed his named on the dotted line as to where he will play his college career at for the next four years, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Condon, signed to play at Ave Maria University, an NAIA program in Naples, over the weekend. Condon becomes the first Dragons player to sign after National Signing Day.

Over the weekend, Palm Coast Matanzas had another player sign to play college football, this time for Navy, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.. Fullback Shawn White, who was a three-year starter for the Pirates program signed over the weekend during an official visit to the U.S. Naval Academy, adding to the Midshipmen's list of official signee's for the 2012 class. White had other offers from Jacksonville University, Jacksonville State, Mars Hill and Georgia Southern.
